BT Children in Need/Comic Relief
The BT Tower Showcase team is part of BT Telecommunications Group. The unit is dedicated to creating bespoke functions in one of London's landmark buildings, The BT Tower
As well as hosting corporate events BT Tower Showcase organises telephony arrangements for the Children In Need and Comic Relief charity appeals. Responsibilities include providing a temporary call centre, recruiting volunteers and managing complex requirements such as live TV broadcasts. The team also arranges and supervises the travel arrangements for attendees.
Business Issues
BT Tower Showcase has been working on the Children In Need and Comic Relief appeals since their inception. As well as providing a location for the telephony teams and meeting the complex communication demands of such events, the Showcase team is charged with ensuring that everyone arrives home safely in the early hours of the morning.

About Cab Services
Radio Taxis has provided black cabs across London and The Square Mile for over half a century. The company can now call upon the services of over 2,500 licensed vehicles serving in excess of 6,000 customer accounts.
All of Radio Taxis' drivers are certified in 'The Knowledge'. As part of London's transportation network, black cabs enjoy privileged access to bus lanes, speeding their journey around the capital.
Sophisticated software platforms are key to first-class levels of performance. Radio Taxis' Pathfinder system logs every call on to an automated booking system. Utilising GPRS (Global Positioning) technology, Pathfinder allocates each fare to the nearest vehicle. If the taxi is unable to arrive within three minutes, the fare is transferred onto a secondary system and reallocated to the driver who is nearest.
Radio Taxis is leading the green transport revolution in the UK. In March 2005, Radio Taxis became the world's first Carbon Neutral taxi company. The Group initiated a comprehensive programme to reduce internal Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions - offsetting unavoidable emissions through renewable energy projects in UK, Europe and Asia.
Working Together
BT Tower Showcase and Radio Taxis work in close co-operation to create ground transport arrangements for Children In Need/Comic Relief.
A series of meetings are held in the months leading up to both events to draw up a detailed action plan. Free cabs home are provided for those taking part that live within the M25. The plan includes a complete breakdown of when and where taxis will be needed plus a list of destinations.
Liaison is key on the night. The guest list is finalised at 8pm and sent over to Radio Taxis in order to ensure sufficient cabs are set aside. An update is provided at 9pm and the teams liaise again at midnight.
Children In Need and Comic Relief both finish at 2 am. At 1.30 am, final numbers are confirmed and cabs dispatched to BT Tower. In 2009, every single guest was on their way within 45 minutes of the telephones closing. When you consider that we often have in excess of 180 people, 50plus taxis and a building 189m in the air to exit this is superb service.
Radio Taxis has been appointed as BT Tower Showcase's preferred supplier for all ground transportation requirements. The booking process is simple and straightforward. A dedicated booking number is provided by Radio Taxis and account details plus ID information must be provided before journey details are recorded.
Management information is timely and clear. Radio Taxis provides BT Tower Showcase with a monthly breakdown of services, including journey volumes, total spend, passenger names and waiting times.
